Preview text, sometimes called preheader text, is a short snippet displayed next to the subject line in an inbox. It offers a glimpse into the email’s content, influencing the subscriber’s decision to open it. This text is critical for grabbing attention and can be strategically used to complement the subject line, though its specific role and effectiveness vary.
This is how the email looks in the email editors.

In MailPoet, you can add the preview text in the sidebar:

It’s recommended to keep this snippet short. We recommend keeping it under 80 characters for optimal impact, although it can extend up to 150 characters. This character limit is twofold: to ensure readability on most devices and email clients and to maintain the recipient’s attention without overwhelming them. Overly long preheaders can be truncated or ignored, diminishing their effectiveness.
It’s essential to consider the audience and the email’s purpose. For instance, if the email is promotional, the preview text might include a compelling offer or deadline to create urgency. For informational emails, you can summarize the key point or value proposition. The choice of words is critical; they should be action-oriented, clear, and direct, resonating with the target audience’s interests and needs.
